How to Apply for a Medical Cannabis Card in Maryland
  1. Go to this website and apply to be a Maryland Medical Cannabis patient:
  2. You will need to get copies of your medical records from your primary care doctor that shows that you do indeed have a qualifying condition for this treatment. 
  3. Schedule an appointment for an initial evaluation HERE. This will include a review of your medical records and a brief physical exam. The cost for this evaluation will be $199 and will be collected at the time of the evaluation. This evaluation is not covered by health insurance.
  4. Once we have determined that you qualify for Medical Cannabis, we will contact the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission and notify them of our recommendations of your qualification for Medical Cannabis. 
  5. Your Patient ID card will be mailed to you, while you wait, we will issue you a written certificate that you can take to a dispensary were you can purchase your Medical Cannabis.
  6. For re-certification, you will need to schedule a visit (telemedicine option available). Aim to schedule and apply at minimum 6 weeks prior to expiration to ensure no lapse in treatment.

How much will my Medical Cannabis Certification cost?

The cost for a consultation with one of our practitioners is $199. This price includes your evaluation and assistance with paperwork. The cost for annual re-certification is $149. Find our most up to date fees HERE. In addition, there is a fee of $50 due to Maryland Cannabis Cannabis Commission for registration and to receive your Patient ID card. 

Will my insurance company cover the certification process, consultation or medical cannabis application?

No. Insurance companies do not cover the cost of doctor's evaluation or a written certification in Maryland. For pricing, click HERE.

What are the qualifying conditions that would allow me to receive my Medical Marijuana Card Certification?

In order to receive a written certification for Maryland Medical Cannabis, you must have one of the following qualifying conditions, or you are receiving treatment for a chronic or debilitating disease or a medical condition that causes:
• cachexia
• anorexia
• glaucoma
• severe nausea
• wasting syndrome
• severe or chronic pain
• post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
• seizures, 
•  severe or persistent muscle spasms
• a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition that results in being admitted into a hospice facility or receiving palliative care.
The Commission may also approve applications that include any other condition that is severe and resistant to conventional medicine for which other medical treatments have been ineffective. For more information visit the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission

Do I need a patient ID card?

You are required to carry a patient medical cannabis MMCC ID card. A patient ID card will be available for a fee of $50.00 charged by the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) during registration. Patient ID card is good for three years. 

What will I need for my consultation?

First, you will need to register with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission at 
Following that step, you will need a government issued Photo ID, patient registry number (provided through the MMCC registration), and medical records and prescriptions pertaining to the condition of which you are trying to seek assistance with.

What will take place during a visit with us?

A registered medical practitioner will perform a physical, review your most recent medical “visit/care summary” provided by your doctor, assess your medical history, and provide you with next steps towards receiving a recommendation. Our staff will provide follow-up care as needed.

Where can I send my Medical records so they can be viewed by the physician at my medical cannabis appointment?

How do I set up an appointment with a registered Maryland Medical Cannabis Practitioner?

I already came in for an appointment. When will I be notified that the Maryland Marijuana Cannabis Commission has issued cards and what are the next steps?

The Maryland Cannabis Commission may take up to 6 weeks to process your application and issue you an MMCC ID number. After receiving an ID #, a written certification can be issued, you can visit a dispensary of your choice with the written certificate and purchase medical cannabis while you wait for your MMCC Card to arrive. 

How much medical cannabis can a qualifying patient possess at one time?

A patient may possess up to 120 grams (approximately four ounces) of marijuana in a 30-day period.

Is there a maximum amount of marijuana extract that a patient can have?

Yes, a patient may only have up to 36 grams of cannabis extract per 30-day supply.

Can I grow my own medical marijuana or can my caregiver grow it?

The Maryland Medical Cannabis laws do not allow for caregivers or patients to cultivate Medical Cannabis. Only a state licensed cultivation facility can grow medical cannabis.

Do I need to be a resident of Maryland to get a Maryland Medical Cannabis Card?

Yes, Maryland does not allow out-of-state patients to obtain their medical cannabis card and purchase cannabis in Maryland. However it should be noted that, any non-Maryland resident currently in Maryland for the purpose of receiving medical treatment is eligible to register as a patient and, during registration, will be required to provide the address of and a contact name for the Maryland medical facility where the patient is receiving treatment.
